From time to time, we actually experience some cool things, so you'll here about them here.

My Sweet Trip To Baltimore

Over Memorial Day weekend, I traveled to Baltimore Maryland from West Cleveland to see two Indians games. The only compliment I can give to the Baltimore Orioles organization is that they constructed a masterpiece of a ballpark. I left at 6:00 a.m., and it took about 6 1/2 hours to get there. Although it seems like all long time at first, the drive isn't bad at all. We got to the game an hour early and bought standing room only tickets even though the game was "Sold Out." A tip to all people that want to see a game, buy the cheapest tickets you possibly can, because you can always move to great seats during the game. Why pay a large amount of money for crappy seats, when you can upgrade the seat yourself for free. I'm telling you, it WORKS. So, Saturday my dad and I watched the Indians fall to the Orioles 3 - 1. We ended up watching the entire game 20 rows in the outfield just past 3rd base. Great Seats! After the game, it rained quite a bit. The remnants of hurricane Dennis was dropping rain by the inches. Baltimore's harbor is a real tourist trap, but it's really nice. There are many little shops and restaurants to visit. I would visit the area in the summer months though, because much of it is in patios. On Sunday, we had bought tickets to the game a month in advance. We paid $18 for upper deck outfield seats, 3rd row. They were great seats, but because it was raining, we were determined to sit closer. We ended up sitting 20 rows behind the dugout. I was so close I felt like I was at a high school game. In addition, during the one hour rain delay, my dad and I were on t.v. for a rather lengthy time. I was proud of that. The tribe won the game 15 - 7. Jim Thome hit a monster 420 ft. homerun onto Eutaw St. The Orioles will add a little marker in the street showing where it landed, how far, and the date. The only marker on the warehouse is from Griffey Jr. It was a really exciting trip, and I recommend visiting the Baltimore area. Its really nice.

July 30th Offspring Concert at Blossom Music Center

How many bands do you know of that include a giant sock puppet penis in their stage show?  That is a question I asked myself as I watched the Dickies open for the Offspring at Blossom last night.  The Dickies are a Los Angeles punk band (old school punk band), that are known for their off-color humor on stage.  They played a forty minute set to open up for the Offspring, a forty minute set that they fit about thirty songs into, and became instant crowd favorites.  It was a good performance, which almost made up for the disappointment of the next act, Lit.

Lit is a relatively new band on the scene, having only one single to date.  I came into the show looking forward to their set, but when they played the first note of their performance, that feeling quickly disappeared.  They were loud, out of tune, and just plain bad.  I wanted to like them, with the catchiness of a couple of their studio tracks, but their only crowd-pleasing song in the set was their one hit, 'My Own Worst Enemy.'  Lit was their own worst enemy in their stage show, which was cut short by the band, leaving us only to guess why.

The Offspring triumphantly took the stage to the strains of 'Americana,' and kept the volume and the audience pumped up through the whole set.  They played songs off of their big three albums, 'Smash', 'Ixnay on the Hombre', and their latest, 'Americana'.  Their stage presence was felt by the audience throughout the whole show, as everyone was singing along.  The climax of the noise from the audience was when lead singer Dexter Holland smashed life-size figures of the Backstreet Boys with a baseball bat.  They played a shorter set, being about an hour and a half in length.  The heat didn't get to the band, as they played virtually non-stop, ending with their parody of 'Feelings.'
